Hello Angela! I'm not sure I really understand it. I guess I see it as a type of art. An art that you don't have to go to museums or art houses to see. They're relatively inexpensive and where commissioned to be duplicated (like paper money and coins).

From my perspective, it's hard to tell the difference between a real company and another brand name. A stock certificate gives a company identity and shows how the corporation sees itself. For instance, Raytheon -- a large government defense contractor -- displays the image of what looks to be a mythic Olympian god wielding lightening bolts and a scroll. I see that as the company's image of itself rather than something that marketing or public relations created for a campaign.

I also find it interesting how different companies use different style of certificate. GM, Google, Yahoo, and Xerox use the same stock design, but Coach -- a purse and leather goods manufacturer -- and Tiffany &amp; Co. -- a jeweler -- goes completely custom. Some stocks -- like Google -- just use a common stock design and use their color logo as the vignette, but GM and Raytheon commission epic scenes for their vignette.

So, in short, I'm a total geek about it. <a href="http://patrickandmonica.net/exit.php?url=aHR0cDovL3d3dy5zY3JpcG9waGlseS5jb20v&amp;entry_id=39" title="http://www.scripophily.com/" onmouseover="window.status='http://www.scripophily.com/';return true;" onmouseout="window.status='';return true;" target="_blank">http://www.scripophily.com/</a> is a great site where you can find other geeks of this kind. <img src="http://patrickandmonica.net/templates/default/img/emoticons/smile.png" alt=":-)" style="display: inline; vertical-align: bottom;" class="emoticon" />

Reed showed me your blog a while back and I added it to my feed reader. I mentioned to Reed you'd posted some certificates and he laughed and said you are fascinated by them. Please elaborate, I know we all have things we are interested in but stock certificates is definitely a new one I'd not heard before.
